Group Reflection(Jordyn’s Part)

Today we met for the first time as a full team. I feel that the meeting went well, although we did have an initial problem starting. The problem was ensuring that we understood what was needed for us to effectively form the business model for the company. After that hiccup, I feel that everything went smoothly from there. We were all able to communicate and have an understanding of what everyone was saying. Also being able to put our design thinking knowledge to test when presenting our ideas.

Design Thinking Global Team

For this project, we will be working with international students using the Design Thinking Process. I am most excited about working with the international students on a project that most us of us have no background using. Some of my hesitations going into this project are possible language barriers and cultural differences. Words or language that we use may not be familiar and vice versa for the international students. Some personal goals that I want to achieve while working on this project are: cultural awareness, technical collaboration, developed design thinking skills, and also having a better use of virtual reality.

NYC Travel Experience

This past week I had the opportunity to travel to New York City and visited SAP, Celonis and Infosys. Along with visiting NYC, I had to opportunity to have a few days to explore the city. When we landed in NYC, we hit the ball rolling by going to visit SAP headquarters. There, we were able to see just how broad their company branched out. Also, their cool robot named “Tory” which is able to take place of humans and scan inventory within minutes as opposed to taking full days if done by a human. The next day was a full day, but I was looking forward to it! We had the opportunity to visit Celonis’s headquarters. We received a tour around the office, which I found to be very inviting and allowing of creativity.. as well as many snacks for everyone! During the visit to Celonis, we were being told about some aspects that the company consisted of and how to access the software needed for the project. Following Celonis, we went a few floors down and visited Infosys. This was a great experience because we had Hodson McFarland, show us around and he gave a great experience. We were able to ask Hodson questions about his current job duties and how he obtained his current position. We were able to have an informative conversation and also did a bit of networking with those that were in the group but may not have been known to have similar interest. All of the companies welcomed us with open arms.

Regarding Cultural experiences, I’d previously been to New York however I was able to have a different outlook this time. In New York, it is common to take the subway to work, or walk where as in Georgia, we often drive to work and do not nearly as much walking even if we live in the city. This this around, I was able to get a better feel of the culture that New York has, that being the diversity and the stigma that New Yorkers are rude and unwelcoming. New York is diverse in that they have so many people of visibly different ethnicities and they were all so helpful and did not seem rude or have attitude. Other than visiting the businesses and the amazing views, my favorite part of the trip was being able to interact with the students from GCSU outside of the project and a work environment.

The Art of Summary

“Facing two ways at once” is a way of the author telling the writer to combine their beliefs with what they have found in order to further extend their argument or point of view. If a writer is not able to leave their own beliefs behind while writing then more than likely their text will be biased based on the information they chose to give.

If one cannot “play the believing game” then most likely their summary will be biased which is taking part of one side more than the other.

According to the text, list summaries are an organization of the writers original thoughts without expanding a larger focus. Using words such as “and then” or “he shows that” are not hitting the key point of the topic. The problem with list summaries is that the author may want to focus on one topic but they are actually focusing on another.

Pro 6: Social media sites help employers find employees and job-seekers find work.

Con 6: Using social media can harm job stability and employment prospects.

press.careerbuilder.com/2018-08-09-More-Than-Half-of-Employers-Have-Found-Content-on-Social-Media-That-Caused-Them-NOT-to-Hire-a-Candidate-According-to-Recent-CareerBuilder-Survey

Social media is a platform used to share about daily life for some and exciting adventures but usually between family and friends, now it has become open for the world to see including ones employer. The conversation being had about both topics specifically speaks on how employers recruit employees for jobs using social media and how that may affect if they are able to obtain that job. Social media has stopped a lot of people from being able to acquire the job that they want due something that was said or a picture that was posted. However, some jobs have set guidelines that they want their employees to follow in order for them to be able for them to be successful. Anything that is posted on social media can more than likely be found by your employer.

https://ifstudies.org/blog/technoference-how-technology-can-hurt-relationships

The topic I wrote on is “technologies interference with relationships. They mention someone who is in college that notices almost everyone has their head buried into their phones before class ends. Also how they continue to use it until they reach their dorm or next class. The author then proceeds to mention a study about married couples and how technology has impacted their marriages. The article then mentions statistics about how the spouses felt or acted due to technology being a part of the relationship. Ex: “25% said their partner actively texts other people during the couple’s face-to-face conversations.” It then goes to mention ways to avoid technology in relationships with tips and keys to look out for.

“Innocence and technologies combined effects on children and adults”

How does innocence and technology play an extensive role within children and adults?

In what way can innocence be taken away by technology?

15 Million Merits

The topic of fame and being viral has polluted the minds of people. I feel that black mirror argues that people are willing to do anything to become famous or go viral. In the case of the main character using his coins in order to try and get the girl out of cycling. However she chose something different for herself. Due to being pressured and indecisive people tend to make rapid decisions. But black mirror makes it a point to show how people will do anything for fame.

I feel that the topic of fame and being viral is something that us as people and a society can relate to because its the quickest way to get what you want, however you’re jeopardizing yourself and possibly others. People are willing to do anything for fame even if comes down to death. We have this vision of what life would be like if famous but in the end some question if it was worth it due to not being able to handle criticism, etc.

” Why should people have the right to play God and condemn someone to death? “

The conversation surrounding how people are able to condemn someone to death as if they are God is a touchy topic. Condemning someone to death is usually done by the government or people that want revenge. Due to my religion and personal beliefs I feel that although a person chose to take a life does not give others the right (death penalty or a family member of the victim) to take their life. Death is something that everyone must face one day but an individual should not be able to determine when that time comes for someone. I feel as if there is a different perspective with different religions and even if someone does not believe in God that determines how they feel about someone being condemned to death as if they are God. The death penalty is most known throughout (for murderers, rapist, etc.) as the place where someone’s life is determined based on the crime they committed. I believe that no one should have the right to sentence someone to death especially if they are not certain that the person committed the crime. There have been many instances where innocent have lost their lives due to the government condemning them to death or an angry person.

Image result for relationships"

Throughout the course I have considered relationships from the readings and films we’ve watched. More specifically one that was memorable to me is the story “Heroin/e.” The relationship that she had with her mom allowed her to better herself after becoming addicted to heroin. The heroin took the main character on a roller coaster but while watching her mom slowly dying on morphine, that brought pain and memories to her because she’d remembered feeling that way while on heroin. In a affected her relationship with her mother because her mom was always around for her. However realizing that she could do nothing about her moms situations killed her inside.

Relationships have changed because it was a relationship with her mom and with the drug heroin. Seemingly they were both always there for her when she needed them. Also I think it might change in the future because will start to develop stronger relationships with people or and activity that they enjoy.
